Foster Resigns as Women's Soccer Head Coach

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that, amid ongoing treatment for Myelofibrosis, head women's soccer coach Mark Foster is resigning after four seasons at the helm of the program.

Foster missed the final 15 matches of the 2025 season while taking a medical leave of absence.

"My family and I have loved our time at UTRGV and are sorry to be leaving," Foster said. "At this time, I think it's the right thing for us to pursue other opportunities. As many are aware, I have had some health issues at UTRGV and am incredibly grateful for the support that I have received from [UTRGV Vice President and Athletics Director] Chasse Conque, [Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator] Molly Castner, and [Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations] James Martinez. I couldn't have asked for more from the administration. I am very proud of the progress we have made during my time, and I think the program's best days are ahead. I am grateful for all the young women that have played for me and wish them the best in their future. V's up!"

Foster took over as the second coach in program history in March 2022 and guided the program into a new era as they entered the Southland Conference in 2024, making the conference tournament in their first season.

Part of the new era was the completion of $10 million enhancements to the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex, including a new locker room, new coaches offices, a new goalkeeper and skills area, a new sound system, and the addition of the Hinojosa Family Press Box.

"We are grateful for Mark and his family's dedication to UTRGV over the last four years and understand his decision to step away at this time. We continue to root for Mark in his battle with Myelofibrosis and pray that he makes a full recovery," Conque said. "Our investments in the women's soccer program over the past few years placed our program in a position to be among the best in the Southland Conference. We will now begin the search for a new head coach to help fulfill our potential."

The UTRGV Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will have no further comment until the next coach is hired.
