ESTERO, Fla. – Seniors Gabriel Dulon Villoslada and McAllen Memorial alum Esteban Gonzalez finished in a tie for 15^th after the first day of the West Bay Collegiate, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast (FGCU), Monday at West Bay Club.
 
The seniors led The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team to a tie for seventh at the West Bay Collegiate with a two-round score of 572. The Vaqueros are one of eight teams to finish the day under par including FGCU (558), Appalachian State (558), Lipscomb (559), ULM (564), Stetson (566), Elon (567), and Troy (572).
 
The Vaqueros also lead fellow Southland Conference (SLC) programs HCU (577) and Lamar (600). UTSA (577) joins HCU in a tie for ninth to round out the top 10.
 
Dulon Villoslada posted the Vaqueros' best round of the day with a three-under 69 in the opening round. He blitzed through the first round with an eagle on the 512-yard, par-5 hole 17 along with six birdies in the first round. Dulon Villoslada wrapped up the day with an even 72 to finish in a tie for 15^th.
 
Gonzalez hit an eagle on hole 17 before tacking on three birdies to finish the opening round with a two-under 70. Gonzalez followed it up with a one-under 71 in the second round to finish in a tie for 15^th.
 
Sophomore Brock Porter finished the first round with a two-over 74 before improving to an even 72 in the second round to finish in a tie for 48^th. Porter found success on the back nine at the West Bay Club, carding six birdies across both rounds of play.
 
Junior Bogdan Sandrini finished the opening round alongside Gonzalez with a two-under 70 after carding four birdies. Sandrini finished the day in a tie for 51^st with a two-round score of 147.
 
Meanwhile, freshmen Javier Domingo Calvo and Pelayo Fernandez Mortera carded identical two-round scores of 148 with both Vaqueros posting rounds of 74.
 
The Vaqueros will wrap up the West Bay Collegiate Tuesday. Fans can follow along through live scoring.
