LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) indoor track & field senior
Nayla Harris opened the Jarvis Scott Invite Friday at Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center with a bang as she earned her fourth consecutive win of the season in the women's 60-meter dash and improved her own program record in the process.
Harris ran a blazing 7.16 in the semifinals to advance to finals, where she ran 7.17 to win the event. She is 4-for-4 as the regular season wraps up for UTRGV.
Senior
Corin Burns also ran a program record in the men's 60-meter dash. UTRGV sent three to semifinals in the men's race. Sophomore
Richard Young tabbed the fourth-best race in program history in the prelims, running 6.70 to advance in the eighth spot. Burns advanced in 14
th and junior
Joshua Mascall moved on in 19
th. Freshman
Derrick Hahn ran a personal best 7.04 but did not reach the semis. Burns took ninth in semis, narrowly missing the finals after turning in a personal best time of 6.67 to improve his own program record. Mascall ran 6.71 to tie the fifth-best time in program history in semis.
The women's 800-meter run trio of senior
Lilliana Guerrero, junior
N Vanee Anchike and junior
Kailey Salazar had another big day, all earning top 10 finishes in a field of 49. Guerrero led the way with a fourth-place finish, running a personal best time of 2:11.41. Anchike took fifth and Salazar was sixth. All three entered the indoor program record books at third, fifth and eighth, respectively.
Junior
Aniya Heckstall and senior
Kaliyah Poston both reached the semifinals with Harris in the women's 60 and finished ninth and 20
th, respectively. Heckstall ran a personal best 7.46 in the preliminary round, as did redshirt junior
Ashley Lingueno in 7.75.
Freshman
Dior Williams and Lingueno reached the semifinals of the women's 60-meter hurdles. Williams finished 10
thwith a personal best time of 8.48, which is ninth-fastest in program history. Lingueno did not finish the race.
Senior
Daniel Siaffa was solid in the men's 60-meter hurdles. He ran the fifth-fastest time in program history in prelims to reach the semifinals as the 16
th qualifier. Freshman
Braydn Gilliam ran a personal best 8.22 in prelims but didn't advance. Siaffa finished 12
th in the semifinal with a time of 7.97 – a personal best and third-best in program history.
Junior Brownsville Hanna alum
Alejandro Arellano ran an impressive race in the men's 400-meter dash, clocking in at 47.26 for a new personal best and the No. 3 time in program history as he finished 20
th. Senior
Jaylen Critton also ran a personal best in 49.53. Junior
Treasure Vallerie took 14
th in a packed women's 400-meter dash field. She ran 55.28, which is the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Senior
Abraham Morales took 30
th to lead UTRGV's men's 800-meter runners. Freshman
Adrianno Gonzalez tabbed a personal best with a time of 1.55.17 to finish just behind in 32
nd.
Senior
Efe Latham threw 16.12 meters in women's weight throw and junior
Keamonie Archie cleared 6.89 meters in men's long jump.
The Vaqueros totaled 11 personal bests and made 13 entries into the indoor record books during Day 1 of the Jarvis Scott Invite. The meet continues Saturday with action starting at 11 a.m. on the track.
