RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Wednesday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros indoor track & field senior
Nayla Harris has been named the SLC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Harris picked up her second consecutive victory in the women's 60-meter dash as she represented UTRGV at Kansas State's DeLoss Dodds Invitational, defeating Power 4 opponents from Baylor, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Kansas as she cruised to the win. She was the lone mid-major student-athlete to reach the final, advancing out of prelims as the No. 1 qualifier after running 7.26. She ran 7.27 in the final to claim victory by .04 seconds.
Harris also took third in the women's 200-meter dash, running 24.85. Her season, personal, SLC and program best time of 7.18 is fifth in the nation and has her in contention to reach the NCAA Indoor Championships.
This is the fourth SLC Track Athlete of the Week award for Harris.
