LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis program is excited for a two-match swing with matches against Texas Tech (TTU) and New Mexico State (NMSU) in Lubbock this weekend.
Last Time Out
The bottom of the lineup shined for the Vaqueros last week in a 5-2 loss at SMU. The Chilean duo of junior
Santiago Serrano and sophomore
Loic Young Kriegel kicked off the match with a dominant 6-2 victory on court three.
In singles, Young carried over his success from doubles with a gritty, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10:4) win over
Vikas Deo on court five.
On court six, sophomore
Tsz Him Chan earned his third win of the spring, wearing down
Matthew Faraci in straight sets, a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Texas Tech – Feb. 7, 4 p.m. – McLeod Tennis Center – Lubbock, Texas
The Vaqueros will make the trip to Lubbock for the fourth consecutive year, going 0-5 in that stretch against the Red Raiders. In the all-time series, UTRGV is 10-21 against TTU, with the Vaqueros last win, a 5-4 battle, coming in 1981.
In the last matchup between these two squads, TTU earned a 7-0 sweep but pushed three singles matches to competitive third sets.
TTU, a member of the Big 12 Conference, is currently 2-2 on the season with wins over Southern Mississippi and Wichita State.
The Vaqueros will catch TTU on the second match of a doubleheader as the Red Raiders are scheduled to face New Mexico State at 11 a.m. Saturday. Fans can follow along through

New Mexico State – Feb. 8, 10 a.m. – McLeod Tennis Center – Lubbock, Texas
UTRGV will wrap up the weekend with a neutral-site battle against former conference foe NMSU at 10 a.m. Sunday. UTRGV is 5-14 all-time against the Aggies with their last win coming in 2024, a 5-2 victory in Edinburg.
In the last matchup between these two teams, NMSU won a tight 5-2 match in Lubbock which saw the Vaqueros take the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. UTRGV earned a win on court six behind the play of Serrano but dropped the remaining five matches.
NMSU, a member of Conference USA, is currently 2-6 on the season with a 5-2 win over Weber State and a 4-1 win over UC Riverside.
NMSU and UTRGV will compete in a standalone match Sunday in Lubbock. Fans can follow along through
