RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference announced on Monday that junior first baseman Armani Raygoza of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team is the Southland Conference (SLC) Hitter of the Week.
 
While leading the Vaqueros to a 3-1 record, including a road sweep of reigning SLC Tournament Champion Houston Christian University, Raygoza hit .353/.476/.882, going 6-for-17 with three home runs, nine RBI, and five runs scored.
 
During the week, Raygoza led the SLC in home runs (3) and home runs per game (0.75) while ranking second in RBI (9) and total bases (15), fourth in RBI per game (2.25), and fifth in slugging (.882).
 
Raygoza became UTRGV's all-time leading home run hitter, now with 33, breaking the program record of 31 held by former teammate Brandon Pimentel (2022-23), by hitting two home runs on Saturday. Raygoza's first home run, the record-breaker, was a three-run shot that traveled 426' to right center. His second home run was a 469' two-run blast over the scoreboard in right. Raygoza finished that game 3-for-6 with a season-high five RBI and two runs scored. It was his fourth-career multi-home run game.
 
Raygoza tied the home run record with a go-ahead three-run shot on Friday that traveled 386'. He capped the weekend by going 2-for-4 with two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored Sunday.
 
For the season, Raygoza is hitting .272/.417/.630 with 10 home runs, 25 RBI, and 23 runs scored in 24 games.
 
He ranks 23^rd in the NCAA and first in the SLC in home runs (10), 30^th in the NCAA and second in the SLC in walks (23), 32^nd in the NCAA and first in the SLC in home runs per game (0.42), 48^th in the NCAA and second in the SLC in walks per game (0.96), 110^th in the NCAA and third in the SLC in total bases (58), and 212^th in the NCAA and third in the SLC in slugging (.630).
