RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that men's tennis junior Ivo Isqueiro is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week. 
 
Isqueiro picked up a pair of wins to aid UTRGV's 4-3 victory over reigning Southland Conference (SLC) Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday. The men's team's win clinched the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, for the Vaqueros. 
 
Isqueiro got the big day started with a hard-fought 7-5 doubles victory alongside Santiago Serrano. The duo trailed 5-4 and rallied to win three consecutive games to secure the clutch doubles point for UTRGV. 
 
In singles, Isqueiro showed his tenacity again to bounce back after losing the first set in the second flight. He dueled through a tight second set before dominating the third, breaking his opponent three times to earn the 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win and even the match at 3-3. UTRGV went on to win with a singles victory on Court 6 from Tsz Him Chan. 
 
Isqueiro improved his spring records to 4-9 in singles and 5-6 in doubles while starting his SLC campaign 1-0 in both. The Vaqueros (5-13, 1-0 SLC) will be back in action Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lamar in another conference contest.
