RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics learned on Tuesday that men's basketball junior guard
Koree Cotton is a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.50 and must have competed in 90 percent of the institutions matches or must start in at least 66 percent of the contests.
Cotton played and started in all 33 games this season and led the team with 13.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game on his way to earning Southland Conference (SLC) First Team and All-Defensive Team honors.
Cotton shot 47.4% from the floor while shooting 40.3% from three-point range. He ranked sixth in the SLC with 35 blocks and recorded 30 steals. Cotton scored in double-figures in 26 games, including seven games of 20 or more points while leading the team in scoring 10 times and rebounding 11 times.
Cotton helped the Vaqueros finish with a 19-14 record while helping the team set a program record with 14 Southland Conference wins en route to the No. 3 seed in the SLC Tournament.
