RIO GRANDE VALLEY – A crowd of 2,831 watched the white team beat the orange team 14-7 in the second annual spring game by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros football team on Saturday at Sams Memorial Stadium in Brownsville.
The white team got on the board immediately, as freshman San Benito alum
Fabian Garcia rushed 16 yards for a touchdown to make the score 7-0 after 20 seconds.
That was it until the middle of the fourth, when freshman
Brennan Carroll rushed for a six-yard touchdown to put White up 14-0.
Carroll rushed 10 times for 39 yards. Garcia rushed nine times for 29 yards. Freshman
Aidan Jakobohn started at quarterback for White, going 6-for-11 for 55 yards in the air while rushing five times for 10 yards. Freshman
Jayden Paluseo played the second half, going 7-for-10 for 50 yards. Junior
Tavian Cord made three receptions for 23 yards.
Defensively, junior
Henry Schouten and freshman
Walker Diharce each had six tackles (three solo) with Diharce adding a sack. Freshman
Jaxson Maynard also had a sack to go with five tackles (three solo)
Orange scored a touchdown with 1:03 remaining as freshman
Jaxson Baize connected with his brother, sophomore
Brenden Baize, on a 28-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-7.
Jaxson Baize finished 5-for-7 for 59 yards in the air while rushing twice for six yards. Junior
Garret Rangel started at quarterback for Orange, going 11-for-16 for 71 yards. Freshmen
Alex Green made eight receptions for 65 yards. Freshman
Broderick Taylor rushed six times for 22 yards.
Defensively, freshman
Jarius Williams posted a team-high six tackles (three solo).
The Vaqueros open the 2026 season on Aug. 29 against UT Permian Basin at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium.
