AZUSA, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) outdoor track & field teams combined to set one meet record and four program records Saturday as the Vaqueros wrapped up competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of redshirt junior
Ashley Lingueno, sophomore
Jizzale Davis, freshman
Dior Williams and senior
Kaliyah Poston set a meet record as they won the event in 45.01, the No. 4 time in program history.
Freshman
Matic Vidmar set a program record as he took third in the men's javelin invitational. Vidmar launched a collegiate-best throw of 61.64 meters to keep his strong rookie season going. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, junior
Jefferson Jean set a program record as he finished second in the event in 14.01.
Junior
N Vanee Anchike captured a program record in the women's 1,500-meter invite. Anchike ran 4:19.94 to take 37
thin a deep field, lowering the program record by over 10 seconds.
Sophomore
Jizzale Davis tabbed a program record in the women's 200-meter dash, running 23.44 as she finished third in the event. Davis also took sixth in the women's 100-meter dash invitational final with a time of 11.77.
Freshman
Dior Williams earned her third consecutive win in the women's 100-meter hurdles Saturday. She was victorious in 13.39, tying the fifth-fastest race in program history. Williams is currently undefeated in her rookie outdoor season.
Sophomore Santa Maria alum
Mia Picazo also picked up an event victory as she won the women's 1,500-meter run Open C. Picazo ran a personal best time of 4:36.06, a new eighth-fastest race in program history. UTRGV's 1,500-meter runners ended the day with a slew of personal bests in the evening session. Joining Anchike and Picazo in the record books were junior
Kailey Salazar and senior
Lilliana Guerrero. Salazar took 25
th in the women's Open B, running 4:31.87, which is a new personal best and the No. 4 time in program history. Guerrero ran 4:32.87 in the women's Open A, setting a personal record with the No. 5 time in program history.
In the men's 1,500 invite, junior
Nirmit Dahiya tabbed the No. 2 time in program history as he took 70
th in 3:44.93, which is a new personal record. In the men's Open B, Senior
Abraham Morales also lowered his best time as he finished 47
thin the men's Open B with a time of 3:51.63.
Juniors
Treasure Vallerie and
Joshua Mascall did well in the women's and men's 400-meter races, respectively. Vallerie was fifth in the women's race, running a personal best time of 53.57, which is the No. 5 time in outdoor program history. Mascall finished seventh in the men's race in 46.97, taking the No. 10 spot in the program record books.
Freshman
Talyna Ligier was fifth in the women's 400-meter hurdles, running a personal best 59.47 to take the No. 2 spot in program history.
Senior
Efe Latham took second in the women's shot put invitational with her throw of 15.12 meters.
The Vaqueros totaled 10 personal bests and made 13 entries into the outdoor program record books Saturday, bringing the weekend's total to 17 bests and 18 record book marks. UTRGV saw five program records fall overall during the Bryan Clay Invitational. Up next for the squads is Baylor's Michael Johnson Invitational set for April 24-25.
