WACO, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) outdoor track & field teams closed the Michael Johnson Invitational Saturday with two program records at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium in Waco, Texas.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Brownsville Hanna alum
Aliyah Castillo, sophomore
Jizzale Davis, freshman
Talyna Ligier and junior
Treasure Vallerie set a program record as they ran 3:38.94 to take second, coming behind only the hosting Baylor Bears.
Junior
Jefferson Jean improved his own program record in the men's 110-meter hurdles as he finished seventh in 13.91, a new personal best time. In the preliminary race, Jean matched his previous program record performance of 14.01 to secure his spot in the final, where he lowered the program's top time.
Freshman
Dior Williams reached the final of the women's 100-meter hurdles as she ran 13.85 in prelims to advance as the No. 9 qualifier. Williams improved her time and placement in the final, taking sixth in 13.40, the seventh-fastest performance in program history. Sophomore
Trezur Connley notched a personal best time of 13.94 in the women's hurdles prelims to finish 11
th.
Junior
La'Zariah Bethany had a good day in the jumps pit, taking third in a competitive women's triple jump field. She notched a personal best jump of 12.55 meters on her third attempt, taking the No. 4 spot in the outdoor program record books.
Senior
Efe Latham also earned a third-place finish in field events. She matched her season-best mark of 15.12 meters in the women's shot put.
The women's 800-meter runners had another solid day on the track. Junior
N Vanee Anchike led the way with a second-place finish in 2:05.57, the No. 2 time in program history. Junior
Kailey Salazar followed right behind in third in 2:09.69, the No. 8 time in the outdoor record books. Senior
Lilliana Guerrero joined the duo with a top finish, taking fifth in 2:11.36. Sophomore Rio Grande City alum
Emily Martinez ran a personal best.
Vallerie led UTRGV's women's 400-meter group with a third-place finish, running 53.67 which is the seventh-best time in program history.

Diego Rodriguez ran a personal best time of 10.71.

The Vaqueros finished Saturday with nine personal bests and made nine entries into the outdoor record books, bringing the weekend's total to 15 personal bests. They broke three program records in Waco. Up next for UTRGV will be Houston's Cameron Burrell Invitational on April 30, the last non-conference meet before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
