HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) outdoor track & field teams wrapped up the regular season Thursday at Houston's Cameron Burrell Invitational by winning three events and totaling 13 personal bests at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The Vaqueros looked solid in field events, racking up nine personal bests and two event victories. Junior
La'Zariah Bethany won the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.52 meters, the fifth-best in program history. Junior
Keamonie Archie picked up the victory in men's long jump after clearing 7.27 meters.
Freshman
Matic Vidmar once again improved his own program record with a collegiate best mark of 65.02 meters in the men's javelin, good for a second-place finish.
UTRGV's women's throws trio of senior
Efe Latham and freshmen Edinburg Vela alum
Evalyn Pena and
Trina Hubert had a nice day in the rings. Latham took second in shot put with a toss of 15.48 meters, a new personal best which tied the sixth-best mark in program history. Pena was fifth in the event, also launching a personal best of 12.68 meters. In hammer throw, Latham led the group taking third with a mark of 53.67 meters, while Pena and Hubert finished sixth and seventh, respectively, while both recording personal bests. Hubert also had a personal best in discus, throwing 44.69 meters in a fourth-place finish.
Freshman
Jazmine Newsome was third in the women's long jump and sophomore
Saniyah Richardson followed in sixth with a personal best jump. In men's high jump, freshman
Antwoine Warren took third with a mark of 2.06 meters. Sophomore
Zaire Cunningham cleared a personal best 2.01 meters to finish seventh while freshman
Paul Agba matched his best mark of 1.96 meters for the third consecutive meet to take eighth.

Talyna Ligier picked up a victory in the women's 400-meter hurdles, running the sixth-fastest race in program history of 1:00.14. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, freshman
Dior Williams took third in 14.11. Freshman
JaDan Keiler added a second-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles and notched a PB in the 400-meter hurdles, taking fourth in 52.44. Senior
Daniel Siaffa was second in the 400 hurdles in 51.25 – good for No. 3 in the program record books – and senior
Jaylen Critton finished fifth.
Williams ran the third leg of UTRGV's 4x100-meter relay, which finished second in 45.37, the sixth-best relay in program history. Redshirt junior
Ashley Lingueno got the relay started and sophomore
Jizzale Davis took care of the second leg while senior
Kaliyah Poston was the anchor.
The men's 4x100 relay comprised of junior Weslaco East alum
Gael Romo, freshman
Derrick Hahn, freshman Roma alum
Diego Rodriguez, and Archie ran 40.81 to finish third. Rodriguez also notched a personal best in the men's 200-meter dash, running 21.78 to take 17
th.
Archie led UTRGV's pack in the men's 100-meter dash. He ran 10.84 to finish 13
th in a deep field. Poston was the top Vaqueros sprinter in the women's races. She was fifth in the 100-meter dash finisher, running 12.13, and set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 23.55 to take sixth. Poston's 200 race is the fourth-fastest in program history. Newsome also tabbed a personal best in the women's 200, taking 13
th in 25.02.
UTRGV's 400-meter runners all tabbed top 10 finishes. In the men's race, senior
Derrius Henry ran 47.61 in a second-place finish and junior Brownsville Hanna alum
Alejandro Arellano followed closely in fourth in 48.33. Senior Brownsville Hanna alum
Aliyah Castillo led the Vaqueros women, taking fourth in 57.01, followed by Davis in fifth in 57.16 in the first 400 race of her collegiate career. Newsome was eighth in 58-flat.
Freshman Weslaco East alum
Adrianno Gonzalez was the lone distance runner competing for the Vaqueros in Houston and took third in the men's 800-meter run in 1:56.35.
Up next for the Vaqueros will be the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships set for May 14-16 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
