RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Tuesday that junior Ivo Isqueiro of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team is the SLC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Isqueiro shined in home wins over New Orleans (UNO) and Nicholls (NICH) this week, providing the clinching win for both matches this weekend.
 
Against UNO on Saturday, Isqueiro played loose and aggressive on court two, using a powerful forehand to keep Bertran Fernandez on his heels deep behind the baseline. He took the opening set 6-4 before jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second and cruising to a 6-1 victory to clinch the match.
 
In doubles, Isqueiro and fellow junior Santiago Serrano powered through a tough match to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win on court two.
 
Against Nicholls on Monday, Isqueiro showcased great footwork, a powerful serve, and an even more powerful forehand in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Arthur Oliani. The junior won the first four games of the match and dropped just two games overall while clinching the victory for UTRGV.
 
The duo of Isqueiro and Serrano once again delivered in doubles, breaking a 4-4 tie before closing out a 6-4 win on court two. Isqueiro sealed the doubles point with a decisive serve at match point.
 
Isqueiro is one of two Vaqueros to win the SLC Men's Tennis Player of the Week award this season, the other being graduate student Sam Whitehead, who won on March 24.
