SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) outdoor track & field teams closed the regular season Sunday at the Trinity Last Chance Meet and picked up two victories and two personal bests at the Trinity Multi-Purpose Stadium.
Senior
Derrius Henry and junior Brownsville Hanna alum
Alejandro Arellano took first and second in the men's 400-meter dash. Henry ran 47.02 to win the event and Arellano was close behind in 47.06.
Senior
Jaylen Critton picked up a victory in the men's 400-meter hurdles, running 53.15. He was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.63. In the men's 100-meter dash, sophomore
Richard Young finished second in 10.55.
Freshman
Saniyah Richardson tabbed a third-place finish in women's long jump with a personal-best mark of 5.65 meters. Freshmen Edinburg Vela alum
Evalyn Pena picked up a pair of third-place finishes in throwing events. She tossed 39.91 meters in hammer throw and 12.17 meters in shot put.
Sophomore Rio Grande City alum
Emily Martinez was fifth in the women's 800-meter run with a personal-best race of 2:21.12.
Up next for the Vaqueros will be the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships set for May 14-16 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
