UTRGV Soccer Programs to Host Brownsville Soccer Night Next Month

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's and women's soccer programs are teaming up to host a soccer night which will feature a youth clinic and women's soccer exhibition match against Monterrey Tech at Sams Memorial Stadium on August 8.

The evening will kick off with a free youth clinic, hosted by the men's soccer program, for children between the ages of 5-13 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The clinic is open to players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced players looking to develop their game. Participants will take part in drills led by the men's soccer coaching staff and student-athletes.

All those interested in signing up for the free youth clinic can register at GoUTRGV.com/SoccerClinic.

The women's soccer team will then take the field for an exhibition match against Monterrey Tech which is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. The match is free and open to the public.

The festivities on August 8 represent the sixth-straight year that one of the soccer programs hosted an exhibition match in Brownsville.

"We always love when our program can come together and interact with our community," head men's soccer coach Bryheem Hancock said. "Especially when we get to kick off our fall in the Brownsville area, where we will get the opportunity to help grow the game with the youth."

"I hope every young player leaves inspired to dream big and believe in what's possible," head women's soccer coach Nataki Stewart said. "Seeing college athletics up close can ignite a passion that lasts a lifetime. We want them to enjoy the game, learn from our student-athletes, and see how hard work, dedication, and teamwork can open doors in sports and in life. If they leave believing in themselves a little more, then we've accomplished something special."

For any questions regarding the men's soccer clinic, please contact associate head men's soccer coach Sheldon Cipriani at sheldon.cipriani@utrgv.edu.
