Dulon Villoslada Surges into Top Five After Second Day of JT Poston Invitational

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – Junior Gabriel Dulon Villoslada posted a six-under 65 in the second round of the JT Poston Invitational Monday to surge into a tie for third as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's golf team ended the day in a tie for sixth across the 17-team field.

Dulon Villoslada's second-round performance is tied for fifth for lowest individual single-round score in program history and was tied for the second-lowest round among the 100-person field. Dulon Villoslada posted a first-round score of 67 and is now chasing the three-round record of 203 set by Jorge Martin Sampedro at the JT Poston Invitational in 2025.

The Vaqueros posted a second-round score of 279 to bring their total to 553 and stay in the mix for a top five finish. The Vaqueros trail NC State (542), Lipscomb (546), Virginia Tech (546), South Carolina (551), and Elon (551). UTRGV is tied with Southern Mississippi (553) while Wisconsin (557), Kennesaw State (559), and James Madison (562) round out the top 10.

UTRGV's second-round score of 279 is tied for 13^th in program history for a team single round.

Sophomore Brock Porter carded a three-under 68 in the second round, which will enter the record books in a tie for 44^th for lowest individual single-round score in program history. This vaulted Porter into a tie for 46^th on the individual leaderboard, up 21 spots from the end of round one, with a two-round score of 141.

Senior Esteban Gonzalez was bogey-free in the first three holes, extending his streak to 21 before bogeying on hole four. Gonzalez ended the day one-over-par but still sits inside the top 20 in a tie for 18^th, with a two-round score of 138.

Freshman Javier Domingo Calvo, senior Eddie Lai, and freshman Pelayo Fernandez Mortera finished with a 74, 75, and 76, respectively, on day two. Domingo Calvo now sits perfectly on-par for the tournament while Lai and Fernandez Mortera are seven-over and eight-over, respectively.

The Vaqueros will look to finish inside the top five at the JT Poston Invitational with the team set to tee off in the final round Tuesday at 7:36 a.m. Fans can follow along through live scoring here.
