BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team is set to start conference play on the road to face off against the Lamar (LU) Cardinals on Thursday at 6 p.m. at LU Soccer Complex.

UTRGV got back in the win column at home versus the Concordia Tornados (0-3) at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex 5-1, Sunday, Sept. 13.
 
The Vaqueros (4-4) received first career goals from freshmen Anuhea Aalona and Londyn Johnson, and sophomore Natalie Singleton. Sophomore Sienna Church recorded her first goal of the season and Singleton capped off a career day with the final goal of the match, netting her first career brace.
 
In addition to the five goals scored, the Vaqueros tallied three assists with junior Sienna Gillespie freshman Adelina Martel earning their first career assists and senior Libby Pole notching her first assist of the season on senior day.
  
Lamar Cardinals – September 17, 6 p.m. – LU Soccer Complex – Beaumont, Texas
 
The Vaqueros will visit the Lamar Cardinals (3-1-3) Thursday at 6 p.m. at the LU Soccer Complex. This is the seventh time UTRGV and Lamar face off against each other.
 
The Cardinals enter the matchup with a 3-1-3, (0-0-0 SLC) record. Lamar remains unbeaten at home this season and heads into Thursday's match riding a two-match winning streak.
 
UTRGV is (2-2-2) all-time against Lamar, the Vaqueros took a 3-1 win against the Cardinals last season, a 3-1 win in Edinburg. This will be the first time that the Vaqueros travel to Beaumont since a 0-0 draw in 2024.
 
Three of the Southland Conference's top scorers will match up as junior Isabella Burtini and Lamar's Marissa Gross are tied for second in the SLC with five goals, while Diem Sealy has four. The three athletes also rank among the conference's top six in points, with Burtini fourth with 12, Gross fifth with 10, and Sealy sixth with nine. Gross also leads the SLC with three game-winning goals.
