HOUSTON – Senior McAllen Memorial alum Esteban Gonzalez climbed two spots to finish in a tie for third after posting a three-round score of 208 among the 83-person field at the Bayou City Collegiate, hosted by Rice, Tuesday.

Gonzalez led The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team to a fourth-place finish with a three-round score of 855 (284-283-288). The Vaqueros' performance slots into 10th in the record books for lowest 54-hole team score in program history.

The Vaqueros finished behind Rice (850), Sam Houston (852), and UT Arlington (854). UTRGV was one of only five teams in the 13-team field to finish the tournament under par which also included Abilene Christian (862). The Vaqueros also led all the Southland Conference teams in the tournament, finishing ahead of Lamar (879), Houston Christian (886), and UIW (887).

Gonzalez's 208 (68-71-69) places him in a tie for 14^th in the record books for lowest individual 54-hole score. Gonzalez wrapped up a stellar tournament with five birdies in the final day while only bogeying one hole.

Sophomore Brock Porter finished tied for eighth in the tournament after shooting a three-under 69 in the final round to bring his total to 210. After finishing one-over in the second round, Porter recorded just one bogey in the final 18 holes to notch a top 10 finish. Porter's 210 (68-73-69) is tied for 20^th in the record books for lowest individual 54-hole score.

Senior Gabriel Dulon Villoslada jumped out to a quick start on the final day, burying an eagle on hole 18's 542-yard par 5 and birdieing hole one's 537-yard par 5 to finish the second round with a three-under 69. Dulon Villoslada bogeyed his seventh, ninth, and 11^th hole of the third round and shot par the rest of the way for a three-round score of 218 to finish in a tie for 26^th.

Junior Central Arkansas transfer Bogdan Sandrini ended Monday at a one-over 48 through 12 holes but used a strong start in the final day to finish the round at a two-under 70. Sandrini would finish the tournament in a tie for 30^th with a three-round score of 219.

Senior Eddie Lai, playing as an individual, completed a stellar second round shooting a two-under 70, one shot away from the best performance by a Vaquero. Lai finished in a tie for 42^nd after posting a three-round total of 222. Freshman Javier Domingo Calvo finished in a tie for 72^nd after carding a three-round score of 229.

The Vaqueros will now take a few weeks to practice and recover before heading to Florida Gulf Coast's West Bay Collegiate, hosted at the West Bay Club, from Oct. 6-7.
