Cody Atkinson

Cody Atkinson joined UTRGV as an assistant baseball coach in June of 2017 after one season as the volunteer assistant coach at West Virginia.

In 2018, Atkinson worked primarily with the hitters and catchers.
 
In 2017, Atkinson’s primary responsibilities included coaching the West Virginia catchers, assisting the hitters, and coaching first base. Additionally, Atkinson coordinated the team’s camps.
 
Atkinson helped guide West Virginia to a 36-26 record as they made their first NCAA Regional appearance in 21 years. He coached Kyle Davis, who was drafted in the 15th round of the MLB Draft by the Houston Astros, and Jackson Cramer, who was drafted in the 35th round by the Washington Nationals.
 
He guided Braden Zarbnisky to National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Third Team All-American honors while also earning NCBWA District II Player of the Year. Atkinson also helped Zarbnisky, Jackson and Darius Hill to a spot on the Big 12 Conference All-Tournament Team.
 
Under Atkinson’s tutelage, Zarbnisky also earned First Team All-Big 12 honors with Davis also earning Second Team All-Big 12 honors while Cramer, Hill, Cole Austin, Jimmy Galusky, Kyle Gray and Brandon White earned honorable mention accolades.
 
In addition to the team’s camps, Atkinson also directed the inaugural West Virginia University Coaches Clinic, the inaugural Fall Youth Development Program and the inaugural Youth Spring Training.
 
Atkinson served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Everett Community College (ECC) from 2012-16 where they posted a 114-43 record over the four seasons. His responsibilities included coaching the infielders and running the offense. In his first season, Atkinson helped guide ECC to its first Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championship after going 39-9 and posting a .316 batting average.
 
In his final season, ECC led the NWAC in home runs (26) and doubles (111) while finishing with a .301 batting average. ECC won the NWAC North Division and finished second overall with a record of 39-13.
 
Atkinson spent time coaching Chaffey Baseball Club, which is one of the best programs in Seattle, Washington, where he coached Arizona Diamonbacks third baseman Jake Lamb and New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto.
 
Atkinson is a graduate of ECC, where he played baseball and earned his Associate of Arts in 2009. He continued his playing career at Centenary College in 2010 and Corban University in 2012 before earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sports Administration from Lewis-Clark State College in 2014. Atkinson also earned a Masters of Education from Northcentral University in 2017.
 
He and his wife, Kristina, reside in the Rio Grande Valley.Â
