Mike “Vinny” Varrato joined the Broncs on December 4, 2012.
Varrato comes from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he worked with baseball, men's & women's tennis, men's basketball, track & field, cheer, and swimming. Previous to Tennessee he assisted in programming and training for football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball, men's tennis, track & field, water polo, swimming & diving, and cheerleading.
Prior to that, Varrato worked at two different United States Tennis Regional Training Centers. There, he coached, assessed, and wrote travel workouts for nationally ranked players, both professional and junior, some of whom play at the University of North Carolina, Duke University, Virginia Tech University, Stanford University, and Princeton University.
He spent 2007-08 as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Florida Gulf Coast University and the 2007 season as a Conditioning Coach for the Philadelphia Phillies’ AA affiliate, the Reading Phillies. Other previous strength and conditioning coaching experiences includes NFL combine training and Major League Baseball pre-season training at Perfect Competition in Davie, Florida, an Internship at Florida International University, Assistant Director of Performance at Northeast Sports Training in Rhode Island, and a mentorship at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning.
Varrato earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science at Keene State College in May 2003 before going on to earn a Master’s of Science in Exercise Physiology at Florida Atlantic University in December 2006. Varrato is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through United States Weightlifting, and a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, all nationally accredited associations.
