Cody Hopkins

The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on April 29, 2013 that Cody Hopkins, who was on the staffs at North Texas and TCU during the previous four years, is now an assistant coach for the Broncs men’s basketball team.
 
Hopkins was part of the administrative staff for the North Texas men’s basketball teams last season. During the previous the seasons, he was the Director of Operations at TCU, where he was responsible for the program's overall budget, travel arrangements, summer camps and clinics in addition to the video exchange program. Hopkins helped the Horned Frogs to a winning record in 2011-12, as they went 18-15 and made it to the second round of College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
 
A native of Dallas, Hopkins returned home to the DFW Metroplex after spending the previous two seasons at Indian Hills Community College. He helped the Warriors post a 30-3 overall record during the 2008-09 campaign, including a top NJCAA ranking at the start of the season. In Hopkins’ two seasons with the Warriors, the squad posted a 58-13 overall record.
 
During his time at Indian Hills, Hopkins was responsible for recruiting, academic monitoring, scouting, game preparation and skill development in addition to his on-court coaching assignments. In his final season with the Warriors, Hopkins played a role in the development of two All-Americans in Dwight Buycks and Dwight Hardy, while a total of six players earned all-region accolades.
 
Hopkins began his coaching career as an assistant at Angelo State during the 2006-07 season. He simultaneously coached for the second-ranked AAU Team in the nation, Team Texas.
 
In seven seasons on coaching staffs, Hopkins’ teams have gone 121-106 (.533).
 
Hopkins has served numerous times as a guest coach at camps at Texas, Kentucky, Kansas, Texas A&M and UTSA, as well as the prestigious Kobe Bryant Skills Academy.
 
Hopkins was a two-year starter at Northern Oklahoma College, where he averaged 12.0 points per game while connecting on 42.0 percent of his three-point field goal attempts. An all-conference selection as a sophomore, he spent one year at Centenary College before finishing up his playing career at Northeastern State.
 
Hopkins was among the Northeastern State leaders in points, rebounds and assist-to-turnover ratio, as well as free throw and three-point shooting percentage.
 
During his high school career, Hopkins earned All-America honors and captured the gold medal at the National Three-Point Shooting Championships.
 
Hopkins earned his associate's degree from Northern Oklahoma in 2004 and his bachelor's degree from Northeastern State in 2006.
 
He boasts strong coaching bloodlines, as his father, Jerry, served stints as the head coach at both Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
