Silviu Telespan

After spending the 2014 season as a volunteer assistant women's soccer coach, Silviu Telespan served as a full-time assistant coach from 2015-22. Telespan transitioned into his current role as Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics in the spring of 2022.

As a coach, Telespan assisted with both the technical and tactical training while serving as the Director of Scouting for the team. In this capacity, he was responsible for compiling scouting reports, preparation of video for the coaching staff, the team and individual players as needed for performance analysis.
 
Telespan was also the Set Pieces Coordinator, successfully designing and implementing set piece plays that resulted in 40 goals in seven seasons. UTRGV ranked among the best in the WAC in 2021 with a (+7) goal differential on set pieces (nine scored, two allowed) and 2018 with a (+8) goal differential (ten scored, two allowed).

Additional responsibilities included being the Head of Sports Performance. In this capacity, he was responsible for the analytics sector of the program (statistical and data analysis) along with monitoring of performance through various software and hardware platforms, such as InStat, PlayerMaker, Hudl and SoccerPulse.
 
From 2015 to 2022, Telespan has shown strong international recruiting skills, contributing in the recruitment of 26 international players from 14 different nations.
 
He also assisted in laying the foundation for seven women’s soccer student-athletes to sign professional contracts.
 
Off the field, Telespan successfully led the academic monitoring that helped the program to regularly achieve one of the highest-grade point averages in the department. 

Furthermore, he coordinated the team community service projects while being also active in developing relationships and arranging opportunities for team engagement with local schools, clubs, and nonprofit organizations.

More recently, Telespan was part of the coaching staff in the Republic of Moldova, serving as the Under 15 women’s national team assistant coach during the 2019 calendar year. He was part of the first foreign coaching staff in the history of Moldovan women's football and his impact was tremendous. During his time in Moldova, the team won their first ever game at this age group and finished first in the UEFA / AFC development tournament in March 2019 held in Singapore.

Between 2012 to 2014, Telespan served as assistant coach at South Carolina State University. Telespan assisted with both technical and tactical training while there.

Prior to joining the staff at South Carolina State, Telespan spent four years in New York City where he was Director of Coaching at Soccer At Its Best Academy.
 
In the spring of 2006, Telespan signed on as the Manhatanville College men's soccer assistant coach, where he assisted his former coach at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Didier Orellana, until the summer of 2008.
 
Starting in 2006, Telespan spent his summers as part of the coaching staff at Ray Reid Soccer School/University of Connecticut residential camp. As a camp coordinator, Telespan was responsible for technical and tactical instructions for college bound soccer players.

Born in Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania, Telespan came to the U.S. in 2003 after earning a full athletic scholarship from NYIT. As the captain of the NYIT men’s soccer team, Silviu led the Bears to two NCAA appearances and three New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. In 2005, Telespan was named team MVP after leading his squad to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
 
Telespan started his playing career under the guidance of his father, a former national team player for Romania. The younger Telespan played in the second and third Divisions of the Romanian League. As a youth player, his team captured the U12 National Championship.
 
Telespan is a UEFA licensed coach and holds the West Ham United Academy Coaching Diploma. He holds a master’s degree in Sports Business Management from Manhattanville College and a Bachelor of Business Administration from NYIT.
