Ashlie Christenson

The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team announced on August 8, 2013 the addition of Ashlie Christenson, who graduated as one of the top outside hitters in Baylor history, as an assistant coach.

Christenson comes to the Broncs after serving as an assistant coach at Hill College during the last two seasons and playing professionally for the Ljungby Volleyball Klub in Sweden during the off-season.

Her responsibilities will include working with the Broncs outside hitters, recruiting and organizing summer youth camps.

“I am excited to welcome Ashlie to the Broncs volleyball program. I have known her since her high school playing days, as she was someone I heavily recruited prior to her Baylor commitment,” Broncs head coach Brian Yale said. “She is a person of high character and someone that I think will be a great fit with the current needs of our program. She appeared to mesh very well with the girls during the interview process and that was an extremely important aspect for me. Beyond that, she brings a ton of high level playing experience into our gym at a position that we need to take further steps forward with this season. I can’t wait for all of us to get in the gym together to start fall practice.”

A four-year starter at Baylor, Christenson ranks 10th in Baylor history in kills and fifth since rally scoring began (2001-present) with 1,145. She also ranks ninth overall and fourth since rally scoring began in total attempts with 3,325. While leading the Bears to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2009, Christenson set a program NCAA Tournament record for highest attacking percentage in a three-set match (minimum 10 attempts) with a perfect 1.000 (8-0-16) in the second round against Georgia Tech.

Christenson graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences after majoring in fashion merchandising.

“Coach Yale recruited me back in high school when he was at Stephen F. Austin. Being around him through the interviewing process, I remember now why making my school decision was so hard. He has a very appealing coaching style and I know I will learn a lot from him,” Christenson said. “I had the opportunity to meet a few of the girls during my interview and can not wait to get in the gym with them. They seem level headed, goal driven, and ready to make huge strides. I am confident that we will have success together.”
