Frederick began her collegiate coaching career at Illinois State University. She served as the Director of Volleyball Operations on the Redbirds’ staff for two seasons where she coordinated team travel details, summer camps, campus visits, and other administrative tasks. Frederick's collegiate playing days included three years at Cleveland State (2004-06) and one season at Owens Community College in Ohio (2003). The defensive specialist was a key contributor for the Vikings in both her junior and senior campaigns, when CSU compiled overall records of 19-10 and 19-9, respectively, and earned American Volleyball Coaches Association regional rankings.

At Owens CC, Frederick led the Express to a 40-9 record, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and regional titles and a fifth-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championships. Frederick compiled 297 assists and 128 digs and was named to the all-conference all-academic team.

Together they reached several milestones as Comets, including the program’s first District title and first conference championship in nearly twenty years.
