Derek Schramm joined UTRGV as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement and Administration on Sept. 11, 2023 and was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Revenue Officer.
Since joining UTRGV, Schramm has been instrumental in the creation of the Vaqueros Loyalty Points program, the Vaqueros Athletic Fund, and the Rally the Valley NIL exchange. Since 2023, the Vaqueros Athletic Fund has raised over $28 million, including a record $207,320 from 195 donors during the 2024 UTRGV Day of Giving.
Schramm also oversees the ticket sales team for UTRGV. In back-to-back years, UTRGV has achieved record-breaking ticket sales and attendance records, including welcoming over 140,000 fans across all sports in 2024-25.
As part of these record-breaking attendance numbers, UTRGV baseball averaged 3,164 fans per date in 2025, ranking 30th in the nation.
In addition, Schramm and the ticket sales team have achieved sellouts for season tickets, suites, and all premium seating for the 2025 football season.
In his CRO role, Schramm oversees ticket sales team, NIL, licensing, and corporate sponsorships.
Schramm came to UTRGV with 13 years of experience working in college athletics, most recently at Lamar, where he served as associate athletic director of external affairs & revenue generation.
Schramm led Lamar’s day-to-day affairs in ticketing, marketing, corporate partnerships, fundraising, creative services, and media relations. Schramm was also the liaison for multiple third-party partners, sport administrator for men’s and women’s cross country and track & field and undertook name, image, and likeness efforts with the launch of the CardiNIL Exchange. Schramm helped Lamar exceed ticket sales revenue goals, including an overall ticket revenue increase of 73% from 2021 to 2022.
Schramm joined Lamar in June 2019, initially working as manager of ticket sales and service for two years before being promoted to assistant athletic director for ticket sales and service.
As the manager of ticket sales and service, Schramm created and implemented brand new season ticket renewal incentive plans for football, baseball, and basketball, launched the L-Club for all former letterwinners, and created a new referral program for football, baseball, and basketball.
Before his time at Lamar, Schramm was the manager of ticket sales and service at Miami (OH) University, helping Miami generate back-to-back years of record high ticket revenue in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He created and implemented brand new season ticket renewal incentive plans for football, hockey, and basketball. He also introduced an annual “week of sales,” which saw a 335% increase from year one to year two.
Schramm also worked in the ticketing operation at Kansas in roles related to new business and development for the athletics department from March 2015 through June 2017.
Schramm spent the previous two years at Minnesota, first as a ticket sales representative and then as a senior ticket sales representative.
As a student at the University of Nebraska, Schramm worked as an athletics marketing intern from August 2011 to May 2013. Prior to this internship, Schramm volunteered as a ticket sales account executive from August 2010 to May 2011. He also gained experience as a game day marketing and promotions intern with the St. Paul Saints minor league baseball team during the summers of 2010 and 2011.
Schramm doubled-majored in marketing and management en route to earning a Bachelor of Science from Nebraska in 2013. He is currently working toward a Master of Business Administration in Leadership at Lamar.
