UTPA To Play Only Home Soccer Game of Season

EDINBURG - Coach Eloy Moran will start all four of his seniors at 4 p.m. Saturday in the University of Texas-Pan American's only home soccer game all season. But all eyes will be upon a Bronc freshman.

Mario Ribera, who shares the NCAA Division I national scoring lead, will be trying to score all he can as the Broncs entertain Schreiner College from Kerrville.

The Broncs are 8-1, all on the road so far. They will play just two more games, both against Schreiner, before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Mobile, Ala., Nov. 5-6-7.

Ribera hopes to duplicate Saturday what teammate Mohsen Husain did against Schreiner in Kerrville last season. Husain scored five goals as the Broncs Breezed, 10-1.

With the season winding down, Ribera has 36 points on 14 goals and four assists to tie Ben Crawley of the University of Virginia for No. 1 in the nation. A freshman from Bolivia, Ribera will be going all-out against Schreiner, a private college which has about 650 students to UT Pan American's 13,283.

Moran's three seniors besides Husain, who hails from Kuwait City, are Jose Trujillo, Weslaco; Demian Morquin, Buenos Aires, Argentina; and captain Jorge Cavazos, Reynosa, Mexico.

For the first time in many games, the Broncs will charge admission of $1 for the home test on their soccer field, located just north of Orville I. Cox Stadium on the southeast corner of the campus.

"We look forward to having people there supporting us for our only home game this season," Moran said. "Everyone is healthy. We don't know the pairings for the Sun Belt Tournament until a week before we go to Mobile."
