SAN ANTONIO - Without playing a home game, the soccer Broncs remain unbeaten going into two neutral-field tests for the University of Texas-Pan American this weekend.
Eloy Moran has coached UT Pan American to a 6-0 start. The Broncs face Texas Lutheran at 4 p.m. Saturday and Texas Christian at 4 p.m. Sunday, both on the Incarnate Word College home field.
Goalie
Albert Flores ranks No. 2 in the strong NCAA Midwest Region by giving up just 0.56 goals per game. Two other Broncs,
Mario Ribera and
Victor Ramos, are tied with 15 points to rank in the top 10.
Rafael Cardenas has scored nine points.
The Broncs own by far the best soccer record in the Sun Belt Conference, which doesn't have a conference schedule, just a tournament at South Alabama Nov. 5-7. The Broncs are 6-0, Arkansas-Little Rock 2-2-2, Jacksonville 3-3, South Alabama 2-4-1 and Western Kentucky 2-6.
In Austin last Saturday the Broncs beat Centenary College of Louisiana, 4-1. Moran didn't nominate anyone for Sun Belt Player of the Week, because "it was a team effort," he said, "The defense was working fantastic."
The Broncs play their home opener against St. Edward's University, a team they beat 1-0 in Austin, at 3 p.m. next Wednesday in Edinburg.
