Broncs Change Soccer Schedule, Play Three at Home

EDINBURG - The University of Texas-Pan American has changed its soccer schedule and will play its final three games at home, starting at 5 p.m. Friday in a rematch with Northwood University.

Coach Miguel Paredes announced Wednesday that two UTPA games in Florida Nov.1 and 2 have been canceled, at Stetson University in DeLand and the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Instead, the Broncs will end their schedule at home on Saturday, Oct. 25, in a first ever game with South Texas Community College. STCC was added to the UTPA schedule Wednesday. The Broncs will entertain Centenary College on Oct. 22 as scheduled.

"South Texas Community College (in McAllen) has agreed to play us on Saturday, Oct. 25th, at noon in Edinburg," Dr. Paredes said.

The coach reported the Broncs in their best physical shape of the season as they prepare to meet Northwood of Cedar Hill, Tex., Friday in the UTPA Soccer Stadium. The teams fought to an overtime tie, 1-1, in Edinburg on Oct. 1.

UTPA took 36 shots on goal, its season high, against Northwood but Knights goalkeeper Daniel Bryan, a freshman from Arlington, Tex., made 16 saves. Goalkeeper Marcelo Paredes of UTPA also made some game saving stops, one diving onto the goal line at the finish.

"Friday's game is an opportunity to prove that we learned something from the first game," Dr Paredes said. "The only thing that wee need to do is be more precise in the finish of our plays. We had lots of offense--it's just that we were not very productive."

"Our injury report is probably the best of all season--we're dressing everyone for this game," the coach added.
