Northwood's Knights Challenge Broncs

EDINBURG - Northwood University's Knights, who have eight international players from five nations, will challenge Texas-Pan American's Broncs in their home soccer opener at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Northwood owns a 2-3 record against smaller-college opponents. Coach Jorge Canales' team meets just one NCAA Division I opponent this season, UTPA twice in Edinburg, Oct. 1 and Oct. 17.

The Knights from Cedar Hill, Tex., have a far more international team than the Broncs. UTPA's roster lists just one international player, Daniel Ausucua from Tampico, Mexico.

Four Knights come from Mexico, including three from Nuevo Laredo -- Eduardo Silva, Steve Su and Mario Alvarado. Raul Barksdale is from Ciudad Acuna. The other Northwood foreign players are from Egypt, The Netherlands, Bahrain and Costa Rica.

The Broncs have played nine Division I teams so far and one non-Division I opponent, all on the road. Wednesday's game will be at the UTPA Soccer Stadium, on the campus north of the Orville I. Cox Tennis Stadium.
