Lady Broncs Lose Fifth Straight to Arkansas, 74-44

The UTPA women's basketball team lost its fifth straight game on Sunday (Dec. 18) as the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks defeated the Lady Broncs in Fayetteville, AR, 74-44.

Arkansas never trailed in the game after hitting their first bucket at the 19:15 mark. UTPA kept the score within single-digits for the first nine and half minutes of the game but the Lady Razorbacks offense was clicking as they scored 44 points in the first half for a 24 point lead.

During the second half, Arkansas slowly built their lead to as much as 43 points with 3:57 left to play. The Lady Broncs put together a late 13-0 run in the last 2:27 of the game to close the gap to 30 at the end of play.

Senior Devin Reed (Indianapolis, IN/Cowley County Community College) led all players in scoring with 13 points on 4-11 shooting, including 3-5 from behind the three-point arc. Reed also led all players in minutes played with 38 and also pitched in three assists for the Lady Broncs. Teshay Winfrey (Houston, TX/Eisenhower H.S.) added nine points in the game on 2-7 shooting. Winfrey was 5-5 from the free throw line, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and dished out three assists.

Arkansas held the Lady Broncs to just 33% from the field on 15-45 shooting and 30% from behind the three-point line. Meanwhile, the Lady Razorbacks shot at a 40% clip from the field and 35% from three-point range. UTPA committed 27 turnovers in the game and recorded just 29 rebounds compared to 46 by Arkansas.

The Lady Bronc loss was the team's fifth straight and dropped their record to 1-9 while the Lady Razorbacks improved their record to 6-4.

UTPA is in action again on Tuesday (Dec. 20) at home as they host Schreiner University in the UTPA Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.
