The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team was back in action today for day two of the Texas-Tech Tournament. The Broncs (0-2) fell victim to the Thunderbirds (1-1) of Southern Utah 6-5.
Starting for the Broncs today was Scott Wingo. Wingo, a native of Garland, Texas pitched for three innings allowing three hits but had two strikeouts.
The score would stay scoreless until the top of the fourth as third baseman Jose Mendoza would score off a Ryan Vest ground out. Junior and designated hitter Jordan Rutenbar added another point sending one over the fence into left center.
The Thunderbirds would not stay quiet though. In the bottom of the fourth inning they put up five runs off six hits giving them the momentum to stay in the lead for the rest of the game.
The Broncs would score again in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the contest but the Thunderbirds' Kyle Hamman would score the winning run on a wild pitch by Mike Lankford.
The Broncs are back in action Sunday in a double header against Southern Utah and Texas Tech at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
