BOISE, Idaho – Perry Petty led the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) with 20 points, but the Broncs (3-10) fell 91-62 to the Boise State University Broncos (7-4) tonight at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho.
Boise State took the lead in the first half of action this evening, but sophomore Aaron Urbanus got the Broncs into the game with a layup, followed by a three-point shot from Petty. Shots from Robert Arnold and Paul Noonan kept the Broncos in the lead, but consecutive jumpers from Kieondre Arkwright and Ruben Cabrera cut UTPA's deficit to 8 points, 17-9 with 12:01 left in the game.
Petty, Cabrera and Enique Mason were able to sink shots and connect with the basket for UTPA, but Boise State powered through the remainder of the first half, taking a 41-18 lead into halftime.
The Broncs came back in the second half fighting. Urbanus knocked down a three, followed by a layup and a free throw. Boise State followed up with two shots from the line and a jumper from Zack Moritz, but Petty responded with a three and Dwayne Gutridge tallyied a jumper to bring the score to 47-29.
Anderson and Noonan continued to lead the Broncos, however Calvin Walker, Brandon Provost and Matt Mierzycki fought back for UTPA. At the 7:27 mark, Urbanus made another three to bring the score to 77-49. Petty, Arkwright and Mason each followed up with a basket to make a final push for the Broncs under the 5:00 mark. Despite shooting 44 of 62 points in the second half, the Broncs could not catch up to Boise State and fell 91-62.
In addition to Petty's 20 points, Urbanus recorded 13 points, while Arkwright chipped in 10 points.
