BRONCS DEFEAT HUSTON-TILLOTSON FOR SECOND STRIAGHT WIN

EDINBURG, Texas- The University of Texas Pan American (UTPA) volleyball won their second straight match after defeating Huston-Tillotson 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-14) Saturday afternoon at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
 
The Broncs (7-17, 1-4 GWC) grabbed the lead after a kill by Diara Reynolds but it went back and forth early as the Rams grabbed the 3-2 lead.  UTPA then went on an 8-2 run that was capped by another kill by Reynolds, who had five kills in the first set.  A kill by Ashten Landry pushed the Broncs' lead to 18-7 before they closed out the set on a 7-3 run for the 25-10 victory.
 
UTPA jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set after back-to-back service aces by Maria Kliefoth.  After a Huston-Tillotson time-out, the Broncs went on an 12-2 run that was highlighted by back-to-back kills by Sarah Davis and a couple of more kills by Reynolds.  UTPA allowed just six points in the second set for the 25-6 victory.
 
The Rams (1-26) hung in there with the Broncs in the third set as the match went back and forth with five ties.  With the match tied at six, UTPA grabbed the 8-6 lead after another kill by Reynolds.  Both teams then exchanged points and the Broncs held on to a 13-12 advantage before they would close out the set and the match on a 12-2 run for the 25-14 victory. 
 
Diara Reynolds finished the match with 11 kills, a game-high, while Sarah Davis chipped in 10 kills of her own.  Juri Franzen paced the defense with 14 digs and Krysta Freitas added nine.  Shauna Miller had 22 assists while Macey Singleton added 15 as well. 
 
For the Rams, Chantelia Washington led the way with three kills and Amber Green, defensively, had six digs.
 
The Broncs return to action Sunday afternoon as the University of New Mexico comes to the Fieldhouse for a non-conference match.  The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
