BRONCS FALL TO 0-2 AFTER LOSS TO NORTHWESTERN

EVANSTON, Illinois- The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team dropped their second game of the season as they fell 60-36 to the Northwestern Wildcats Sunday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.   
 
The Broncs grabbed the first lead of the night when Earl Jefferson made a layup at the 19:23 mark in the game.  Northwestern quickly took the lead with a three-point field goal by Luka Mirkovic.  After the Broncs took a one point lead with 13:12 left in the half, Northwestern went on a 13-2 run to push their lead to 20-10 with 7:54 left in the half.
 
Later in the half, UTPA answered with an 8-0 run to cut the Northwestern lead 20-18 after Brandon Provost hit a three-pointer with 5:05 left to play in the half.  The Wildcats, however, responded with an 11-1 run to close out the half that gave them 31-19 halftime lead.
 
The Broncs shot 31% from the floor in the first half on just 8-of-26 shooting and 2-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.  Brandon Provost led the way for the Broncs in the first half with six points while Josh Cleveland and Earl Jefferson each added four points. 
                           
In the second half, Nick Weiermiller got the Broncs within single digits as he hit a jumper to make the score 33-24 in favor of Northwestern.  A jumper by Drew Crawford capped off a 12-2 run that made it 45-26 Wildcats with 11:31 left to play.  Jared Maree converted on a layup with 6:51 to play that made it 50-32 Northwestern.
 
The Wildcats closed out the ball game on a 10-4 run grabbing the 60-36 victory.  The Broncs shot 29% in the second half on six-of-21 shooting and were just one-off-11 from beyond the arc.  Northwestern shot 40% from the floor and just 25% from beyond the arc. 
 
Provost finished the night with 12 points in 33 minutes and Jared Maree added 12 points with eight rebounds.  John Shurna led all scorers with 15 points and five rebounds.  Luka Mirkovic added 12 points and Drew Crawford chipped in 11 points of his own.
 
The Broncs will next play USC-Upstate in the Tip-Off Classic to kick-off their home schedule at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Friday Nov. 18th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
