Other nuggets of knowledge:
Let's Get Busy: The Broncs are playing games on three consecutive days and four out of five during the UTPA Tip-Off Classic. The only other time this season the Broncs could have a similar stretch is by playing on three consecutive days during the Great West Conference Tournament in March.
Home Sweet Home: The UTPA Tip-Off Classic marks the first four of 15 regular season home games this season. The Broncs hosted ten games last season, picking up five of their six wins at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Weiermiller Time: Nick Weiermiller returns after red-shirting a season ago and has the opportunity to etch his name in UTPA's history books. Weiermiller is currently ninth all-time with 112 three-point field goals made and needs three more to pass Mire Chapman and seven more to move into the top-five all time. The Elmira, NY native is also ninth all-time in minutes played and needs 54 minutes to pass Tom Fiepke for eighth in the record books. The red-shirt season stands eighth all-time in assists and needs nine to move into seventh to pass Kirk Brown.
Marks the Spot:
Ryan Marks is now in his third season as the UTPA Head Coach. Marks is 13th Head Coach in UTPA
History. Former UTPA Head Coaches include Sam Williams, (Let Pan American College to 1963 NAIA National Championship),
Lon Kruger (Current University of Oklahoma Head Coach and former coach of Atlanta Hawks and Univ. of Illinois) Abe Lemons (Former Texas Head Coach)
Welcome to the Fieldhouse: Built in 1969, the Fieldhouse has hosted numerous events including men's and women's basketball and volleyball contests, graduation and professional sports exhibitions. In the summer of 2010. the Fieldhouse received a long overdue facelift as the original wooden bleachers were replaced and a new state-of-the-art floor was installed.
Sam Williams Court: The floor at the UTPA Fieldhouse is named after legendary UTPA Head Coach
Sam Williams, the program's all-time leader in victories with 244. He led the Broncs to an NAIA National Championship in 1963, the school's lone National Championship. The floor was re-dedicated last season with Coach Williams in attendance.
