EDINBURG, Texas- The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) volleyball team returns home to try and snap their three-match losing streak as they face off against the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders Thursday night at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The Broncs (7-20, 1-6 GWC) are coming off a 3-0 loss against the Utah Valley Wolverines on Tuesday night in Orem, Utah. The Wolverines took control in each of the three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-12, and 25-19.
Diara Reynolds and
Krysta Freitas each had six kills in the contest with Freitas adding four digs.
Juri Franzen added to her season total with six digs.
Shauna Miller paced the offense with 18 assists.
On the season,
Ijanae Holman leads the team with 2.24 kills per set and
Shauna Miller adds 7.06 assist per set for the offense. On defense,
Juri Franzen averages 4.02 digs per set and has a team high 25 service aces. Senior
Sarah Davis leads the team with 58 blocks on the season.
NJIT is coming off of a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's on Thursday Oct. 27
th. They enter Thursday's match up against the Broncs with a 9-15 record and 2-5 in Great West Conference play.
Janet Snell leads the Highlanders with 3.53 kills per set and she also adds 2.70 digs per set. Audrey Snell paces the NJIT's defense with 4.44 digs per set. Anna Mercado averages a team-high 8.85 assist per set for the offense.
The Broncs and the Highlanders last met on October 1
st where NJIT took the 3-0 victory over the Broncs.
Ijanae Holman had 11 kills for UTPA and
Juri Franzen had 13 digs. The Broncs lead the all-time series 4-2.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
