CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University a Texas-Pan American volleyball team dropped its last game 3-0 at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islander Classic against Towson University Saturday evening. Freshman Bronc Maria Kliefoth was selected to the All-Tournament Team; the tournament was hosted by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Friday and Saturday at the Dugan Wellness Center.

The first set was an even competition between the two teams, and the Broncs maintained an early lead until a kill by Towson's Dayanne Van Ass tied the score at the seven-point mark. An error by Katy Buck after Shawna Miller's attack put UTPA back on the lead; after being tied with 10 points, Towson's scoring took off, and the Broncs were not able to catch up. The set ended 25-19.

The Broncs were dominated in the second set, when they trailed through the majority of the game and although block by Juri Franzen allowed the Broncs to catch up at 11 points the Broncs did not keep up and the set ended 25-13.

Ashten Landry got the action started serving first on the third set and put the Broncs ahead 3-0; although UTPA led for the majority of the second game, it was at the 16-point mark that Towson broke the tie. A kill by Ijanae Holman put the Broncs back in contention tying the score 22-22, but Towson had a strong finish and scored the last three points to grab the win before UTPA was able to react.

Maria Kliefoth, who was recognized First-Team All-Tournament, contributed with 13 team attacks and six kills in the last game. Ijanaew Holman led the team with 27 attacks and five kills, while Michelle McNamee and Sarah Davis had 16 and 15 attacks respectively.

The Broncs come back to action Tuesday, Sept. 13 hosting Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 6 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
