MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) volleyball team will begin play in their final regular season tournament of the 2011 season on Friday afternoon as they face-off against host Robert Morris University with a noon start time. The Broncs will play three matches in two-days at the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Classic. The Broncs will face Morgan State and Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
The Broncs (1-11) are coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The Broncs held a 2-1 advantage after three sets but could not find the match clincher.
Junior outside hitter
Ijanae Holman was solid on both sides of the net for UTPA. She posted a season best 18 kills to go with 13 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Michelle McNamee chipped in with a season best 12 kills and
Sarah Davis,
Diara Reynolds and
Maria Kliefoth each chipped in with eight kills apiece.
Shauna Miller had a career high in assists with 51.
Juri Franzen was again the star on defense with 26 digs.
Robert Morris (1-9) is coming off a 3-0 defeat against IUPUI last Saturday at the Kent State Invitational Tournament. The Colonials are currently on a five match losing skid and they lost their only home game in 2011 against Duquesne back on September 6th (1-3).
Saturday the Broncs will have two matches to round out tournament play. The Broncs will face Eastern Michigan at 10:00 AM and Morgan Stateat 3:00 PM. Live Stats will be available for all matches on UTPABroncs.com.
