DALLAS, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team fell 7-0 in the season opener at Southern Methodist University on Saturday at Bent Tree Country Club.

The Broncs were able to force tiebreakers in two match-ups. In the #1 doubles, Beau Bernstein and Chetan Panditi fell to Tobias Flood and Joseph Hattrup 8-7 after falling in the tiebreaker 7-3. In the #3 singles match, Panditi took the first set, 6-4, but fell to Pablo Perez-Esnaola 6-4 in the second set, setting up a tiebreaker that Panditi dropped 10-7.

Bernstein played Gaston Guandranti close in the #1 singles, falling 6-4, 7-5, and Shane Kyral fell in the #6 singles to Hattrup, 6-4, 6-3.

“Overall we competed very well and kept our composure on every court throughout the match. We need to work on our doubles play. This match gave me an opportunity to see areas in our singles play that needed to improve. We were up a break in the second set in 3 out of 6 matches. We let a 4-1 lead slip away in the first set of #4 singles, so we obviously need to work on closing out sets. But I think that will come as we get a few more matches under our belt. I'm really looking forward to getting to work on these areas on Monday,” Broncs head coach Paul Goode said.

The Broncs return to action on Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. when they visit Laredo Community College
