EDINBURG, Texas -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team (1-0) kicks off the 10th annual Al Ogletree Classic on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds (0-3) at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

It's game one of a four-game series, with the Broncs and Thunderbirds meeting in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

Tickets are still available and can be purcahsed in person starting one hour before game time at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium box office.

What You Need to Know

  • This is the third meeting between the Broncs and the Thunderbirds in a series that dates back to 2009. The Broncs are looking for their first win. 
  • The Broncs swept the Al Ogletree Classic in each of the last two seasons, going 2-0 against both Illinois-Chicago and Saint Louis in 2011 and doing the same against UT-Brownsville and Prairie View A&M in 2010.
  • The Broncs are 8-4 all-time in the Al Ogletree Classic under Manny Mantrana.
  • This is the first time the Broncs are meeting the Thunderbirds in the Al Ogletree Classic.
  • The Broncs are 18-14 all-time in the Al Ogletree Classic, which started in 2003.

  • The Broncs beat the Scorpions 13-1 in a game that was called after six and a half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule
  • Mike McCarthy hit a two-run home run in the second inning, matching his season total from last season. He finished 3-for-3 with four RBI.
