What You Need to Know

UTPA vs. Utah Valley University: This is the 13th all-time meeting between the Broncs and the Wolverines in a series that dates back to 2005 … The Broncs have picked up two wins in that time, all in the six meetings since Ryan Marks took over as head coach … one of those wins came at the UCCU Center, 56-53, in the first round of the 2010 Great West Conference Tournament (3/10/10) … The Broncs fell to the Wolverines 77-69 earlier this season at the UTPA Fieldhouse (2/2/12) … In six career games against the Wolverines, Jared Maree is averaging 11.2 points and 4.7 rebounds while Aaron Urbanus is averaging 9.8 points … In four-career games, Nick Weiermiller is averaging 8.0 points and 3.5 assists … In three-career games, Brandon Provost is averaging 15.3 points.

Provost Honored: Junior guard Brandon Provost earned Great West Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending February 18 after leading the Broncs wins over NJIT and Chicago State. Provost led the Broncs in scoring in both games, with 15 points against NJIT and 16 against Chicago State. Provost set new career-highs in free throws made and attempted, going 10-for-12, including 7-for-8 in the final 52 seconds to seal the 75-67 victory over NJIT. On Saturday, Provost dished out a career-high six assists to help the Broncs past Chicago State 74-70. Overall, Provost averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while helping the Broncs to extend their winning streak to four games.

First Round Bye At Stake: If the Broncs win tonight's game, they will assure themselves of at least a third place finish in the Great West Conference standings and clinch a berth in the semifinals. The #4 and #5 seeds will play in the first round, with the winner of that facing the #1 seed while the #2 and #3 seeds also face each other in the semifinals.

Regular Season Title Still in Reach: If the Broncs win tonight's game, they will delay the Wolverines' ability to clinch the Great West Conference regular season title outright. The Broncs need to win out and have the Wolverines lose out to finish tied atop the standings. In second place, the Broncs are the only remaining team that can catch the Wolverines.

Win Total Climbing: This Broncs are on a four-game winning streak for the first time in four years, and playing their basketball since then as well, having won 6-of-8. The Broncs have 11 wins for the first time since the 2007-08 season, including five in Great West Conference play, their best mark ever. Ten of the Broncs' 11 wins have come at home, more than they had at home over the last two years combined (eight).

UTPA 74, Chicago State 70 (2/18/12):
  • Brandon Provost led all scorers for the second-straight game, finishing with 16 points while dishing out a career-high six assists.
  • In his final game at the UTPA Fieldhouse, senior guard Nick Weiermiller hit a pair of free throws with 4.3 seconds left to extend the lead to two possessions. Weiermiller scored seven points with one assist, the 400th of his career. He hit a three-pointer in the opening minutes to move into a tie for fifth place in program history in three-pointers made.
  • Making his first appearance since conference play began, senior guard Kieondre Arkwright started and hit two three-pointers, including one on the Broncs' first possession, in his final game at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
  • Senior guard Jared Maree scored nine points with six rebounds, four assists and one steal in his final game at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
