Cleveland's Double-Double Not Enough as Men's Basketball Falls at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota – University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball sophomore forward Josh Cleveland recorded his first-career double-double in an 86-60 loss to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux on Monday at the Betty Englestad Sioux Center.
 
Cleveland set new career-highs in points (15), rebounds (11), offensive rebounds (6), steals (2) and field goals attempted (13), while tying his career-highs in field goals made (6) and free throws attempted (7) in 26 minutes off the bench.
 
One other Bronc (11-19, 5-4 Great West Conference) reached double-figures as Jared Maree scored 10 points with a career-high three blocked shots.
 
The Fighting Sioux (14-14, 5-4 GWC) had five players in double-figures. Jamal Webb led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Aaron Anderson scored 15 points while Patrick Mitchell, Lenny Antwi and Josh Schuler scored 11 points each. Schuler also had seven assists as the Fighting Sioux held a 23-to-10 advantage in that category.
 
Webb scored seven points in the opening three and a half minutes to propel the Fighting Sioux to a 10-0 lead. The Broncs pulled within 13-6 on a Brandon Provost three-pointer, but the Fighting Sioux responded with a 14-5 run to push their lead into double-figures, where it stayed for the rest of the game.
 
The Broncs got to within 48-32 on a pair of free throws by Aaron Urbanus early in the second half, but Schuler hit a pair of three-pointers to spark a 15-2 run to put the game out of reach.
 
The Broncs play their final game before the Great West Conference Tournament on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Houston Baptist University. If the Broncs win, they will guarantee themselves a top-three finish and a first-round bye. If the Broncs win and the Fighting Sioux lose to Utah Valley on the same day, then the Broncs will clinch the #2 seed.

UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
