SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team opens the Southland Conference season when they visit the #67 University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Series
The Broncs (3-1, 0-0 SLC) are 22-25 all-time against the Roadrunners (3-6, 0-1 SLC) in a series dating back to 1982. The Broncs and Roadrunners have met between one and three times in every season since then, with the exception of 2002. The Broncs' most recent win was 4-2 in 2009.

The Broncs took all three doubles matches, with the #1 team of

Chetan Panditi beating
Marcin Marczewski and
Jake Williams 8-3.

Carlos Olea 8-4 in the #3 spot, while
Rolf Niederstrasser and
Victor Alves held off
Andrej Kilpa and
Michael Ortiz 9-8 in the #2 spot.
In singles, Alves and Niederstrasser dispatched their opponents in the #4 and #6 spots, respectively, in straight sets, while Bernstein beat Marczewski 7-5, 7-6 in the #1 spot, Hopker beat Kilpa 3-6, 5-1 (retired) in the #2 spot and Panditi beat Moreno 6-0, 7-6 in the #3 spot.
Scouting the Roadrunners
After starting the season 0-4, including a 7-0 loss at #11 Texas A&M, the Roadrunners have won 4-of-6, including a 4-3 win at #36 University of Houston. The Roadrunners are 2-0 at home this season.
The Roadrunners are coming off of a 6-1 loss at #11 Texas.
The Roadrunners are led by reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week
Yannick Junger, who beat #69 Daniel Whitehead in three sets on Saturday at Texas. Overall, Junger is 5-4, including a 4-4 mark in the #1 spot. The Roadrunners are 23-31 in singles and 14-13 in doubles.

Senior
Beau Bernstein earned Southland Conference Player of the Week honors on February 14 thanks to a 6-0 weekend while leading the Broncs to three victories in three days.
Local Flavor
The Broncs have a Rio Grande Valley native on the squad. Freshman
Shane Kyral is from Harlingen and was part of a Harlingen South High School team that was ranked #6 in the state, finishing as the regional runner up in the 5A school division.
