Torre Moves Into Third Place on All-Time UTPA Scoring List in Loss

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota – Harlingen-native and junior guard Bianca Torre moved into third place in career points in the history of the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball program during a 93-60 loss to the University of North Dakota on Saturday at the Betty Englestad Sioux Center.
 
Torre led the Broncs (9-14, 2-3 Great West Conference) with 14 points after hitting 5-of-13 shots from the field, including 4-of-10 from behind the arc. Torre passed Becky Dube (1,156 points, 1984-86) for third place and is now at 1,168 career points, five shy of Naima Williams (1,173 points, 1999-2003) for second place.
 
The Broncs had leads of 1-0 and 3-2 on Keandra Goodson free throws in the opening minutes. Cnise Mothersed responded by hitting back-to-back three-pointers to give North Dakota (13-10, 4-1 GWC) the lead for good at 8-3. The Broncs came back to within one a pair of Erin Lewis jumpers, and were within 12-10 on a Goodson lay-up with 12:53 remaining, but North Dakota went on a 20-3 run, capped by a Brianna Williams jumper eight minutes later, to take a 32-13 lead.
 
Goodson finished with 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds while Lewis scored 12 points with a team-high three assists.
 
After scoring the final four points of the first half, North Dakota opened the second half on a 9-3 run to push their lead to 55-25 with 16:28 left in the game.
 
Allyssa Wall led North Dakota with 20 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, and six rebounds. Mothershed scored 14 points, while Williams, Nicole Smart, Megan Luck and Carly Rothfusz also reached double-figures with 10 points each.
 
The Broncs return to action on Thursday, February 16, when they visit the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 5:00 p.m.
 
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
