LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team allowed nine runs in the third as the New Mexico State University Aggies completed the four-game sweep with a 19-2 victory over the Broncs on Sunday at Presley Askew Field.
The game ended after six and a half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
The Aggies (21-8), now winners of 12-straight, led 5-2 entering the bottom of the third. The scoring started with a one-out two-run home run by
Robert Lecount. With two outs, a Broncs error allowed one run to score, and then a second error extended the inning, allowing
Bryan Karraker and
Parker Hipp to hit RBI-singles,
Zach Voight to hit a three-run home run and
Zac Fisher to hit a solo shot, to make it 14-2.
Andy Lyon hit a three-run home run an inning later to make it 17-2. The Aggies also scored two runs in the sixth.
That made a winner of
Casey Collins (3-2), who allowed two unearned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings.
The Broncs (11-5) got their runs in the third on an error and then a
Chris Torres RBI-groundout.
The Aggies got things started right away, loading the bases with no one out in the first inning on an error and two walks to knock out Broncs starter
Travis Neslony (0-1).
Luis Flores came in and allowed a sacrifice fly to Voight and an RBI-fielder's choice to Fisher as the Aggies took a 2-0 lead.
The Aggies added three more in the second on an error and then a two-run single by Karraker.
Angel Ibanez recorded his sixth multi-hit game of the season for the Broncs, going 2-for-2.
