Men's Tennis Hosts No. 2 Laredo Community College Sunday

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team (7-6) plays host to the second-ranked team among junior colleges, the Laredo Community College Palominos (4-4) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Admission is free.

The Broncs are in a stretch of five-straight home games to close the season after playing in 13-straight matches away from home to open it.
 
The Series
 
The Broncs are 24-4 (.857) all-time against the Palominos in a series dating back to 1982. The Palominos won last year's match, 5-2. They've won two-straight against the Broncs, who last beat the Palominos in 2005.
 
Last Time Out
 
The Broncs are coming off of a 4-3 loss to UMBC in their home opener on March 23, a match that lasted over five hours, featured three tiebreakers and two three-set singles matches.
 
The Broncs took the doubles point behind the No. 1 duo of Beau Bernstein and Chetan Panditi, who won 8-3, and the No. 2 duo of Sebastien Job and Ricardo Hopker, who won 8-5.
 
In singles, Bernstein and Job each won their singles matches as the Broncs went ahead 3-0, but UMBC took spots three through six, including three-set victories in the fourth and fifth positions.
 
Scouting the Palominos
 
The Palominos are coming off of a 7-0 loss at UTSA on Friday. The Palominos took one doubles match, winning in the No. 2 spot with Leonard Ivic and Caio Gomes winning 9-7 (7-4). They lost four of six singles in straight sets, but did force tiebreakers in the second set of both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

Local Flavor
 
The Broncs have a Rio Grande Valley-native on the squad. Freshman Shane Kyral is from Harlingen and was part of a Harlingen South High School team that was ranked #6 in the state, finishing as the regional runner up in the 5A school division.
