HARLINGEN, Texas – The third-seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team (2-12) faces off against the sixth-seeded California State University Bakersfield Roadrunners (0-11) in the quarterfinals of the Great West Conference Championship on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the HEB Tennis Center.

The Broncs won the Great West Conference Championship as the fourth seed in 2010 and finished in fourth place as the second seed in 2011.
The Series
This is the second meeting all-time and of the season between the Broncs and Roadrunners. The Broncs won 5-2 in Bakersfield on February 18.
The Broncs and Roadrunners played very competitive doubles matches in the top two positions. The team of
Malin Andersen and
Suncica Strkic won in the No. 1 spot, 8-6, over Daniela Dimas and Nancy Ramirez, while the No. 2 team of
Wanda Beguelin and
Dana Nazarova edged the team of Julian Mannix and Vernoica Dimas 9-7.
In singles, the Broncs won in the top three positions in straight sets as Nazarova beat Vernoica Dimas 6-3, 6-3, Andersen defeated Daniela Dimas 6-1, 6-2, and Strkic beat Ramirez 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 4 position, Beguelin beat Estefania Limpias 6-2, 7-6, 6-2.
Last Time Out
In their final match of the regular season, the Broncs fell to the University of Houston Cougars 7-0 on April 8.
Wanda Beguelin led the Broncs with a hard fought match in the No. 3 position. She took the first set 7-5, but Liselot Koenen came back to win a tiebreaker to take the second set 7-6. Koenen also won the final tiebreaker to earn the point. The Cougars took the other four singles matches played in straight sets, including double bagels at No. 4 and No. 5. The Cougars also took the two played doubles matches, 8-5 and 8-2.
Scouting the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners played all 11 of their matches in California during the regular season, with seven of them coming at home.
The Roadrunners are 12-48 (.200) in singles this season and have not yet one a match in any of the top three positions. The majority of the wins have come of the No. 5 position and No. 6 positions, as the Roadrunners have five wins in each of those spots. Julian Mannix is a team-best 6-3, including 4-0 at No. 5.
