LAKE CHARLES, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis program is ready for the Southland Conference (SLC) Fall Championships which will run from Friday to Sunday at McNeese's Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
 
Representing the Vaqueros in the singles bracket is junior Luna Buijtenhuijs, who is returning from an 8-1 singles campaign in SLC play last spring across courts one, three, four, and five.
 
This fall, Buijtenhuijs has accumulated a 3-3 record in singles play which includes a three-set win over UIW's Jana Ruzic. Buijtenhuijs has also earned three-set wins over Natalia Trigossa from Louisiana Tech and Laia Tarazona Peyro from UTSA.
 
Buijtenhuijs enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will take on the No. 5 seed Ana Paula Chavez from Stephen F. Austin in the quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
 
Meanwhile, senior Rhea Makesar and freshman Mirka Delaney are set to represent UTRGV in the doubles bracket. The pair has yet to play together, but both Makesar and Delaney have earned wins over SLC opponents this fall.
 
Makesar, paired with sophomore Mariangel Estrella, defeated Martina Acebedo and Athina Grigoriadou from Northwestern State (NWST) at the Rice Invite.
 
Meanwhile, Delaney, partnered with senior Madeleine Joffe, defeated the NWST duo of Nico Tagami and Zula Vnuk at the Rice Invite. Delaney, this time paired with junior Juana Gomez Weiss, also picked up a win over Texas State's Avery Arant and Kinley VanPelt.
 
The duo will make their debut in the quarterfinals as they take on the No. 2-seeded duo of Ana Hollweg and Elena Morales from McNeese at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
