Broncs Drop Game Two of Doubleheader

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the University of Northern Colorado Bears 3-0 in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
 
It was the first time the Broncs (27-16, 14-8 GWC) have been shutout at home since May 27, 2010, a game that was also against the Bears (23-26, 13-9 GWC).
 
All of the runs scored before an out was recorded. Ryan Yamane led off with a walk and Casey Coy singled. Taylor Anderson laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the ball was thrown away, allowing Yamane to score, Coy to move to third and Anderson to second. Adam Hilker followed with a two-run single to complete the scoring.
 
Dusten Knight (3-4) settled down after that, pitching six innings and striking out five while allowing eight hits and four walks.
 
Joe Willman (5-6) and Josh Tinnon combined on the shutout. Willman pitched 6.2 innings, allowing five hits and six walks while striking out three. Tinnon pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three hits for his first save.
 
The Broncs stranded 12 base runners, including the bases loaded in the first and seventh innings.
 
The Broncs and Bears play games three and four of this four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Both games are scheduled to last nine innings. Gates open at 11:00 a.m.
 
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
