PEORIA, Ill. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the Bradley Braves 74-54 on Saturday at Carver Arena.
Junior
Shaquille Boga led the Broncs (4-5) with 17 points and five assists. Graduate student
Javorn Farrell scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Senior
Josh Cleveland grabbed a career-high tying 11 rebounds.
Walter Lemon Jr. led three Braves (5-2) in double-figures scoring with 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting with six assists.
Omari Grier scored 17 points.
Ka'Darryl Bell scored 10 points.
Chris Blake led the Braves with 11 rebounds.
The Braves jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the first four and a half minutes, going 5-for-10 from the field while limiting the Broncs to six attempts.
The Broncs got on the board for the first time at the 15:12 mark on a
Lauri Toivonen free throw, the first of five-straight points for the Broncs. After a pair of baskets by Grier and Lemon pushed the Braves' lead back out to 13, a Cleveland jumper with 11:56 remaining sparked a 9-0 run to bring the Broncs within 18-14 on a Boga layup five minutes later.
The Braves bumped their lead out to 15 when an
Auston Barnes jumper punctuated a 16-5 run in the closing minutes of the first half, but the Broncs again pulled within eight when a Farrell three-point play capped an 8-0 run to make it 48-40 midway through the second half. The Braves, however, scored the next 10 points to push their lead into double-figures for the rest of the game.
The Broncs conclude this seven-game road trip on Monday at 7 p.m. when they visit Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
